Live Well Naturally. » Recycled Sewage Boosts Sydney Water Supply

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – NOVEMBER 17: Andrzej Listowski, manager of water and energy at Sydney Olympic Park, holds a flask of clean water which has been recycled from sewage November 17, 2006, in Sydney, Australia. The Water Reclamation and Management Scheme (WRAMS) is a large scale integrated urban water system which incorporates the collection and treatment of sewage and stormwater and recycles it into a supply of water for non-drinking purposes like toilet flushing, washing clothes, cars and pets, and irrigation. The scheme, which uses almost 100% sewage, saves approximately 850 million litres of drinking water each year at the Olympic Park and Newington. As Australia continues to endure the worst drought on record, schemes such as the recycling of sewage for clean water are gaining public attention as water sources across the country dry up.
